Gardening Club
Gardening club is an after school club which is open to KS1 and KS2. It is currently run by Miss Stacey and Liz Warner and runs alongside nature club.
The main aims of gardening club are for the children to learn about growing different sorts of plants, for them to have a go gardening and looking after plants and to have a better idea about where some of their food comes from.
Summer Term.
Gardening club has been extremely busy since starting up again at the end of the spring term. The children have been busy planting vegetables and growing flowers and seeds and now the beds are looking very full and very tasty!
Currently growing in the raised beds we have: tomatoes, potatoes, broad beans, runner beans, garlic, onions, leeks, radishes, courgettes, peas and carrots. We are very much looking forward to harvesting these!
We have also planted lots of flowers amongst the vegetables to encourage wildlife and pollinating insects. We have also planted some vegetables and flowers in pots to sell at the summer fair.
The Morrisons vouchers for this year have been used to buy more gardening equipment and also to provide the Foundation Stage with some raised beds and smaller gardening equipment suitable for little gardeners. We are very grateful for all of your donations as they have really helped the gardening club have a very successful year.
Spring Term 2010
It’s been a busy start to the term for gardening club and there has been a lot of work to do in the environmental area. Luckily we have a very large group of keen gardeners and environmentalists this year and they have worked very hard to help get things sorted.
Over the summer the raised beds were full of potatoes, tomatoes, sunflowers and herbs but unfortunately they also got very overgrown with weeds and nettles! For the last couple of weeks we have been clearing the beds, digging in manure, topping up the bug hotel, sorting the greenhouse and harvesting any seeds we can to plant next year.
We are just about ready to start planting some winter crops and we have just planted some garlic.
The tools and equipment that last years Morrisons vouchers bought are proving very useful and we already have plans for how we want to spend this years collection.
