Pen friends in The Falkland Islands
The Bitterns have started writing to children at Port Stanley Infant and Junior School in the Falkland Islands.
The Falkland Islands are off the coast of South America in the South Atlantic Ocean.
We have been finding out about how their lives are different from ours, but also about how we are similar in some ways too.
Here are some of the things that we have found out.
- It is summer in the Falklands when it is winter here in Devon.
- Port Stanley is the capital of the Falkland Islands.
- Some children have to fly from some of the remote parts of the islands to get to school, and they stay in a hostel while they are at school. Some of them don’t see their parents for months at a time.
- There are penguins in the Falklands.
- There aren’t many shops in Port Stanley, and the biggest shop doesn’t look very big!
- Their winters are very cold and windy, and they have quite a lot of snow.
This is Port Stanley.
