Year 1 - Jackdaws
Spring Term 2012
We were looking forward to going to the Multi Skills festival at Bideford College and we were very disappointed when it was cancelled. So we held our own festival in the school hall with Mr. Binding and Mr. Wilshire which was just as much fun.
On World Book Day we enjoyed looking at a Native American Creation story. The Jackdaws came into school dressed as Native Americans and looked AMAZING! We made beautiful Native American paintings, Native American head dresses and jewellery and at the end of the day, we watched Pocahontas.
We have been learning about the properties of numbers and how to add and subtract using Numicon and other physical resources. The children are encouraged to experiment and discover things in their own way.
N.S.P.C.C. Challenge
We did it!! The Jackdaws faced an enormous, grueling challenge on Tuesday the 24th January. For the duration of a whole P.E. session in the Hall we participated in a carousel of star jumps, sprint ladders, hula hoops, catching bean bags, hurdles and bench step-ups. Thank you to anyone who sponsored us.
Geography
For our local area topic we followed a map around the school grounds. When we came back to the classroom we used anything we could find to make a physical map of the school.
Our next topic is Italy – would anyone like to sponsor us to go on a field trip to Venice? Please?
We have been painting buildings from around the local area for our display.
English
Recount
The first block of work we looked at this year was a Christmas recount which taught the children to think about the past tense. We remembered events and activities that happened to us and put them into a timeline so we could write about them in chronological order.
Non-Fiction
To link in with our topic of Italy we are going to be writing a non-fiction text. The children will use what they have learnt about Italy and
