Year 5/6 - Lapwings
Summer Term.
During the first part of the summer term the children in Lapwings were given the task of investigating the different parts of a flower and devising a game to help them and others remember them. There were a variety of ideas, many based on traditional games we are all familiar with. See if you can recognise any? They then created a play script to explain how plants reproduced. These were then filmed and the results were informative and somewhat comical!

Science
During the first half of this Autumn 2009 term, children in Years 5 / 6 will be concentrating on learning about the different properties of solids, liquids and gases and how to separate a variety of materials. We will then be moving on to a short unit on electricity, followed by a larger focus on light. There will be an emphasis on practical investigations in a problem solving, cross curricular context.
Topic
Our topic this term, Autumn 2009, is the Aztecs. The children will be undertaking most of their learning in all curriculum areas with a link to this. Throughout the term, the children will investigate all aspects of Aztec life and how historians have made discoveries about this civilization. The year group is due to take part in a video conferencing session with an educational company called Mexicolore who are based in London. Fifteen Year 5 and 6 pupils from nearby Shebbear primary school will be joining us for this day. Towards the end of the term, we are planning a ‘celebration’ of Aztec learning.
