Welcome to Year 3 - Chaffinches & Bullfinches!
What a fantastic week Year 3 have had!
The children performed exceptionally well in our Mary Poppins production. Their hard work certainly paid off and the Year 3 team are very proud of all the children.
We would like to thank all their families and friends for watching and for providing such superb costumes.
We have also enjoyed writing some comical Limericks about characters in Mary Poppins and we showed off our creative talents by choosing how we presented them on paper.
This week we have been celebrating British Science Week. The theme this year is ‘Journeys’. We made paper planes, gliders and helicopters and then tested them to find out which travelled the furthest.
We have continued to work on Fractions in Maths with the children enjoying problem solving using a slightly confused robot!
Everyone is working hard on our Mary Poppins production and looking forward to performing it to parents.
This week we have been using our Science knowledge of opaque, translucent and transparent to predict the outcome of an experiment. We have continued learning about Fractions as part of our Maths topic, and we have been busy rehearsing our performance of ‘Mary Poppins’.
On Friday, we loved celebrating ‘World Book Day’. We enjoyed dressing up, completing a scavenger hunt and decorating our classroom doors.
Alongside this we have finished off our coronation crowns. The children independently decided on the materials that they would need and how to join different parts together.
In Maths we have been completing a block on statistics. The children have collected data and drawn detailed bar charts before answering questions about their findings.
The children in Year 3 have had a very exciting return to school! They have been busy solving a crime!
On Wednesday morning, we were shocked to find that the computer room had been destroyed. Using clues found at the scene, Bullfinches and Chaffinches were able to identify and interview four suspects before correctly identifying Mrs BB as the culprit.
This work will then feed into our next writing block, which is newspaper report writing.
The children have been enjoying the end of term Christmas activities.
We have been decorating our classrooms and created some lovely festive craft.
Alongside this, we have been practising our carols ready for ‘Carols Around the Tree’ next week
The children have enjoyed the conclusion to our crayon topic, and wrote some fantastic letters of complaint. They have also used scratch painting to represent landmarks.
Some of the children loved creating their own bookmarks with Mrs Rowe.
This week the children in Year 3 have been learning about different countries and cultures. They have then used their knowledge to plan an exciting adventure for a crayon.
We finished the half term by designing and making some fantastic Stone Age weapons. The children really enjoyed working together to share ideas.
Our new topic is Colour. This week the children have been presenting all of their amazing research from their home learning task.
The children have also created some fossil art thinking carefully about colour choices, tone and brush techniques.
Last Friday was our Harvest Festival. Year 3 wrote and read some beautiful prayers.
Over the last two weeks we have continued with our Stone Age topic. The children have created some fantastic cave paintings using charcoal and stained paper which are on display in the classroom.
We have enjoyed investigating the features of instruction writing to prepare us for writing our own instructions regarding how to make a fossil.
In Maths we have moved onto addition and subtraction. This week we have been problem solving using three digit numbers.
The children have settled in well to Year 3. We have started our Stone Age topic and planned lots of exciting activities! This week, the children have loved finding out facts about the Stone Age, drawing pictures of the animals and creating a Stone Age timeline.
