Governors

Governors' pages

Oh behalf of the Governors, I would like to welcome you to the St Mary's C of E Primary School web site.

As Governors, we believe that it is our purpose to work along side the school staff to produce the ideal environment to enable the pupils to achieve their full potential. We believe the most important role of the school is to produce well rounded individuals who are entirely prepared to go onto the next stage of their education.

We would like to assure you that the Governing Body will do everything possible to help each and every pupil develop.  We wholeheartedly support the idiom 'every child matters'.

Jerry Hope.
Chair of Governors.

Governor News Update

February 2012

Head Teacher

As I'm sure you are aware we are in the process of interviewing for the substantive Headteacher, This is a legal requirement and there is a set process which must be followed. We have included a complete explanation on the governor page of the school website, copies are also available from the school office.
We fully appreciate that there are strong feelings as to the appointment. However the selection committee must assess every candidate with a clear and open mind. We sought the opinions of Staff, Parents and Children, these were included in the person specifications and have shaped many of our interview questions.
The interviews will be held on 8th and 9th of February. This process will involve and include the school community and we believe it will produce a positive outcome which will enable St Mary's to continue improving the learning experience of all of our children.

Building Work

There will be some building work taking place on the school site over half term.  This is the first phase of the development of the pool-site.

The timing of the work has been organised to prevent disruption to the children’s learning and due to the short time available to work on site over half-term the area behind the new buildings will be developed during that break.

Over the Easter break work will take place on the pool-site area. We have been warned by the Local Authority that it is likely that more work will be necessary to develop the remaining mobile units around the KS1 playground. We do not have any time frame yet and we do not expect any building to happen for a year or two, but due to this advice we cannot develop in a way that is too permanent.

After consultation with the whole school community we have agreed to extend the KS1 playground, improve access and widen the main walkway. This will enable greater movement and space (particularly at drop and collection time). Ramped walkways will allow increased access to higher parts of the school. The main gate will also be widened to prevent the bottle-neck which forms at peak times.  We hope that these works will enable greater play and learning space for all the children and ease the congestion at peak times.

We would like to thank the PSFM (and everyone who helped raise the money) for their kind contribution.  This will go towards making the area as attractive and interactive as possible. To that note if anyone would like to help or has any ideas we would welcome the any suggestions.
School Services

From the start of the summer term the school will self-manage the services which we use to buy from an outside company. These are Cleaning, Caretaking and Catering.
There will be no personnel changes and to begin with nothing will appear to change. However, by working closely with the relevant members of staff we can improve the service delivered to the school and most importantly save money.
With the help of the whole school community we will continue to look at ways of changing and improving the way in which school meals are provided.

School Crossing

I would also ask everyone to please respect the school crossing patrol. The patrol is there for one reason: to allow our/your children to cross safely. Please listen and follow instructions as to where and when to cross, if you have to wait whether in your car or on foot please be patient. Parking on the yellow lines narrows the road and increases congestion and frustration which, in turn, raises the chance of an accident. There are plenty of places to park safely.

Finally

I would like to thank all the school staff, Children, volunteers and Governors for their hard work this term.

Thank you

Jerry Hope
Chair of Governors.
