D&T
At St Mary’s Church of England Primary, Design and Technology (D&T) helps children learn how things are made, how they work, and how they can be improved. Through practical, hands-on activities, pupils develop skills in designing, making and evaluating products. Lessons are planned to build knowledge step-by-step, encouraging children to think creatively while using safe, appropriate tools and materials.
Our D&T curriculum supports children to solve problems, make decisions and communicate their ideas clearly. Pupils learn to follow design criteria, test their ideas, and reflect on how they can improve their work. We aim to provide engaging experiences that link learning to real-life contexts, helping children develop confidence and resilience as they explore technology, structures, mechanisms, textiles and food.
