Maths
At St Mary’s Church of England Primary, we aim to make maths clear, practical and enjoyable for all our children. We build confidence through a consistent approach to teaching number, place value and problem-solving, helping pupils understand not only how to answer questions, but why the answers make sense. Lessons are supported by structured practice, carefully chosen resources and opportunities to explain thinking, so that children develop secure foundations for learning across the curriculum.
We encourage parents to support maths at home in simple, everyday ways. You can strengthen key skills by using daily routines such as counting steps, spotting shapes, measuring ingredients or discussing times and money. Short, regular practice works best, and it is helpful to focus on methods and reasoning rather than speed.
