Ofsted Inspection
Tue 16 May 2023We are delighted to let you know that following the recent Ofsted inspection we have been graded as Good. This is an excellent outcome and we thank everyone for working together to provide this level of education to the children.
The inspector met with the head teacher, deputy headteacher, two assistant head teachers and the English and RE leaders as well as members of the governing body and the local authority.
The inspection was a two-day inspection and the inspector commented on many positive aspects of the school.
Pupils at St Mary’s Church of England Primary School are happy to come to school. They appreciate the high levels of nurture and care that they receive from staff. Pupils share that staff make them feel ‘so safe’. They value the links that they have with the church and know that it is important to treat people with kindness and respect.Pupils love to learn. They show enthusiasm in lessons. Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) thrive.
Safeguarding was deemed to be effective. Concerns are reported effectively and training for all staff is regular. Governors monitor school leaders to ensure all pupils are kept safe.Staff were positive about the support they receive from school leaders.
Areas for improvement were to improve key specific vocabulary in some subjects.
A full copy of the inspection report is available to read on the school website here.
The Governing Board would like to thank the children, staff, senior leadership team, headteacher and parents for contributing to such a wonderful school. We are very proud of it.
Yours truly
Sian Jenkins & Naomi Tottle
Chair of Governors and Headteacher

School Day Now Starts at 8.50am and Ends at 3.20pm
Tue 04 Apr 2023Changes to Timings of the School Day
From Monday 17th April the school day starts at 8.50am (gates open from 8.35am) and finishes at 3.20pm (gates open from 3.15pm).
School gates will be locked at 8.50am. Children arriving at school after this time will need to come through the reception. Unless this is due to a medical appointment etc, children arriving after 8.50am receive a late mark. Registers close 30 minutes after the start of school day (as they do now). Therefore, children arriving after 9.20am will be recorded as being late after registers close, and receive unauthorised absence for the morning session.
Breakfast Club remains unchanged with children able to arrive between 8.15am and 8.30am.
